- A 3-1 loss to the Pirates on Wednesday in Pittsburgh ended one of the worst months of Adam Wainwright's career, the first time the Cardinals' ace has ever lost four games in a month. He finished the month with a 2.4 record and 5.45 ERA.

- The Cardinals will have the day off today before opening a four-game series against the Cubs on Friday night at Busch Stadium, a series that includes a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.

- The Rams will be in Miami to play their final pre-season game tonight against the Dolphins. It is the last chance for players to try to earn a spot on the regular-season roster, which has to be cut from its current 75 players to 53 on Saturday.
