-  Daniel Descalso hit his first career grand slam and drove in a career-high five runs to back a solid outing by Adam Wainwright and lead the Cardinals to a 10-2 win over the Padres Tuesday night in San Diego. The Cardinals have not lost back-to-back games since April 27-29.

-The Cubs claimed pitcher Eduardo Sanchez off waivers from the Cardinals on Tuesday. Sanchez has been at Triple A Memphis all season and the Cardinals had to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Tyler Lyons, who is scheduled to start for the Cardinals Wednesday night in San Diego. The Cubs then optioned Sanchez to Iowa.
