- In their second trade in two days, the Cardinals today sent pitcher Joe Kelly and outfielder Allen Craig to the Red Sox in exchange for pitcher John Lackey and minor-league pitcher Corey Littrell. On Wednesday, the Cardinals acquired starting pitcher Justin Masterson from the Cleveland Indians with Double A outfielder and former first-round pick James Ramsey going to the Indians organization.

- Shelby Miller allowed just three hits over six innings and Oscar Taveras hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat since the trade to lead the Cardinals to a 6-2 win over the Padres today in San Diego.

- The Cardinals return home on Friday night to begin a three-game series against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright will pitch against Wily Peralta.
