ST. LOUIS (February 8, 2013) – The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cordish Companies broke ground this morning on Ballpark Village, a mixed-use development on 10-acres adjacent to Busch Stadium. A group of team officials, project participants, and civic leaders commenced work on the $100 million first-phase of the development with the symbolic turning of dirt with commemorative shovels.

Cardinals sign David Freese to one-year deal


The Cardinals announced Friday they have agreed to terms with third baseman David Freese on a one-year contract for the upcoming 2013 season, thus avoiding salary arbitration. The Cardinals have now come to terms with all arbitration eligible players.

- Blues goalie Brian Elliott suffered a sprained right knee Tuesday night and the team said today his status is "week to week," He will be re-evaluated on Sunday. The team has recalled goalie Jordan Binnington from its Chicago affiliate of the AHL to serve as the backup for Jake Allen. The Blues also said that goalie Martin Brodeur will begin practicing with the team on Friday on a tryout basis. 

- Freshman guard Miles Reynolds scored a game-high 19 points, including 14 on free throws, to help Saint Louis University to a 57-54 win over North Carolina A&T Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena.

- The Missouri Tigers salvaged one win out of their three-game trip to Hawaii, defeating host Chaminad 74-60 today. Guard Namon Wright led the Tigers with 21 points while Montagne Gill-Caesar added 18.
