ST. LOUIS (February 8, 2013) – The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cordish Companies broke ground this morning on Ballpark Village, a mixed-use development on 10-acres adjacent to Busch Stadium. A group of team officials, project participants, and civic leaders commenced work on the $100 million first-phase of the development with the symbolic turning of dirt with commemorative shovels.

Cardinals sign David Freese to one-year deal

- Jorge Soler hit two of the Cubs four home runs in only his third game in the major leagues to lead the Cubs to a 7-2 win over the Cardinals Friday night at Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina returned from the DL but went 0-for-3 and struck out twice.

- The Cardinals and Cubs will play a day-night doubleheader today. Justin Masterson will pitch the first game for the Cardinals while arco Gonzales will be recalled from Triple A Memphis to pitch the night game.

- The Rams will announce their 22 roster cuts today as they reach the NFL 53-man regular-season roster. Among the players waiting to find out whether he has made the team is rookie defensive end Michael Sam.

- The 24th-ranked Missouri Tigers will open their season today with a game against South Dakota State in Columbia.
