- The Cardinals' drive to the NL Central title stalled Sunday night with a 7-2 loss to the Reds at Busch Stadium. The magic number remained at five, although they did clinch at least a wild card spot thanks to Pittsburgh's win over Milwaukee. More than 10 players were not available for the game because of a stomach virus.
- The Cardinals lead the Pirates by 2 1/2 games with six to play, starting with tonight's game at Chicago. Adam Wainwright will be trying for his 20th win of the season. Travis Wood will start for the Cubs.
- The Rams could not protect a 21-0 second-quarter lead and lost to the Cowboys 34-31 today at the Edward Jones Dome. The Rams were ahead 24-20 in the fourth quarter before the Cowboys scored two late touchdowns, one on an interception return, to equal their largest comeback victory in franchise history.
- The Blues lost 4-3 in overtime at Columbus Sunday night in their first pre-season game. Goals by Vladimir Tarasenko and Sebastian Wannstrom in the third period rallied the Blues from a 3-1 deficit to send the game to overtime. The Blues play at Dallas tonight.
