- Matt Holliday homered in the first inning and Adam Wainwright, Kevin Siegrist and Trevor Rosenthal made it stand up as the Cardinals beat the Cubs Sunday at Wrigley Field for their fifth 1-0 win this season. Wainwright worked seven innings, winning his major-league leading 13th game and lowering his ERA to 1.92.
- It was the first time the Cardinals won a game 1-0 at Wrigley since June 9, 1989 and also marked their major-league leading 18th shutout of the season. It was the 10th time in 21 starts this season Wainwright has pitched seven or more scoreless innings.
- After a day off today the Cardinals will open a three-game series in San Diego on Tuesday night.
- Former Cardinal managers Tony La Russa and Joe Torre were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., Sunday as members of the Class of 2014. The other inductees were manager Bobby Cox and players Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas.
